Week six update

I’ve decided to temporarily hold off on getting the text popup to work. I’d spent almost a week trying to figure that out and have decided to finish filling out the room and getting the camera to move with the keyboard before going back to that. Some work still has to be done with those, but will be more complete by Wednesday. I feel like focusing more on this will lead to a more compete feeling game. Even if I’m unable to fully get across the experiences of dyslexia, I want to at least have a room the player can move around in.

As stated a bit above, I’ve started putting up the walls and flooring of the room and will have more in when presenting on Wednesday. It’s stayed a bit close to the sketches. I did not have a full idea of what I wanted to have in the room at that point, but have kept the desk and bed from that sketch.

This should show the camera movements I’ve been able to put in so far. I wanted the camera to be the thing that moved, giving the game a more first person game feel, to give the player more freedom of movement.

In regards of a schedule for the rest of the quarter, I am going to be having the walls up by Wednesday and having expanded the room to make it easier to move around in. Apart from that, I was going to put more stuff into the room later this week, like posters, books, and such, to make the room seem more lived in. And then starting next week, I was going to go back to the text pop up to make sure that that works for both of the objects that I have planned to be intractable. I’m not entirely sure how long that will take, but I’m planning on having that portion completed by the end of next week or week eight and spend the rest of the time fine tuning everything else.
