Artist statement and bio

Being a person who has a Learning Difference, I’ve always known what it felt like to go against the norms, at least in an academic sense. That’s why I have decided to take what I know and resources I find to help educate about the world of dyslexia. Even though I’ve been part of the art world for many years, I’m still relatively new to actually making games. But with the experience of using Unity, Blender and Affinity, it seems easier to make the jump now. Even though the art style may not be the best out there, all that I want when this game is complete is to help educate people about what it’s like to have dyslexia. This will be the main part of the game, but I also want some part of it to be a way to let people know that it’s okay to have dyslexia, that people with it are just as smart as people who don’t have it, and attempt to have that message picked up by people who don’t have dyslexia and those that do have it. With all this in mind, I want the game that I make to be functional by the end of this quarter.

While making my capstone, I will be using Unity quite a lot, as it is the only game developing engine I have experience with. As stated a bit above, my game will be about dyslexia, following a kid around as he learns what it is, with the player in control of what is learned and what is seen. I mainly want this to be educational, the player learning about it along with the playable character. It may be hard to make it a fully educational piece, but with that in mind, I do intend to make it as educational as possible without throwing too much at the player.
