This quarter for my capstone, I’m planning on making a video game. Since I have dyslexia, I want to make a life simulator type of game about it. I don’t plan on it being a fully educational game, but am hoping to make portions of it educational, mainly in regards to what dyslexia is and to experience a bit of what it’s like to be someone with dyslexia. In regards of what the game actually looks like, I am loosely basing it on The Sims. I want to use some aspects of it, like the point and click aspect, but want to have something that i can call my own. When it comes to the dyslexia side of things, I want to have things littered around the place the player is in that the avatar can interact with. Things like homework to do, books to read, computers, etc. And with each one, different aspects of dyslexia become transparent. Such as with homework, it takes longer to complete, due to it taking longer to understand what was being said. If one interacts with a computer, you could learn a bit about what dyslexia is. I want it to seem like the player is learning about dyslexia alongside the avatar. I’m planning on using Unity to actually make the game and use Blender to make some 3D models.
